Week 24

Our little one is almost 12 inches long but still weighs just a little over a pound- they have quite the slim figure at this point in time.  This will change soon and the baby will start to fill out and plump up.  Their skin is still rather translucent.  The babies lungs are developing branches of the respiratory tree and the cells that make surfactant (a substance that helps the air sacs inflate once our little one is born).  His or her brain is growing rather quickly at this stage as well.

I feel like I now look obviously pregnant and that there has been big changes over the past few weeks.  It is very hard to hide anymore.  Even under my winter coat you can tell there is something extra.  The girls at work keep asking how much longer I will be able to button my white coat!  And now even with scrubs on you can see my bump.   Here is my 24 week belly (I think my belly looks a little pointy- maybe our little one was sitting up higher for once)!

We took this picture in the nursery this week in front of our new piece artwork.  Gary and I went to an local Arts Festival last summer and found an artist who is actually from near Mom and Dad's house.  We fell in love with his work but at the time had no where to hang it.  Once we got pregnant we knew it would be perfect for the nursery.  Mom and Dad bought Gary this print for Christmas and it is a wonderful addition to the nursery.  The artist's name is Phil Singer and he describes himself as a photo surreal painter who paints visions of a world where the laws of physics and nature bend the will and imagination that dwells within.  The piece of artwork Gary received is called "Outboard Motor" and matches perfectly with our jungle/safari/rainforest theme.    Here is the picture framed as well as copy from Phil's website (http://psingerart.com/).

Hope everyone on the east coast got themselves dug out from the weekend storm just in time for the storm that is going to hit us tomorrow night!  Stay safe and warm.  Here are some pictures of Sasha, Gary and I in the snow this weekend.  Poor Sasha jumped in a drift (see second picture) and could not get herself out so Gary had to go in and get here (third picture)!

We have been blessed with the sweetest little girl who is excited to be a big sister any day now. Gary is still trucking through his second year of residency and I am fortunate enough to be staying home with our little ones.
