Week 39

I must admit that I can't believe I am writing this. After being in the hospital and after my appointment last week I have been fooled on two occasions. I am rather surprised that I made it this far along in my pregnancy. As Gary keeps trying to remind me the baby is very happy and content where they are and the longer time they have in there the better. Most days I would agree (despite my desire to hold and kiss them as well as find out if it is a little boy or girl) but other days my emotions get the best of me and I want them out!!! When it is all said and done though I just keep reminding myself - what is another week or two in the grand scheme of our child's life, just the snap of a finger. Patience is becoming my best friend right now!! I should count my blessings and be thankful that I am still comfortable, happy, and feeling great. Gary and I look at this as some of our last free time together for a while so we are trying to make the most of it.

Yesterday there was a wellness fair/competition for many of the Hershey Companies in the area. It is called The Chocolatetown Challenge. This was the first time Gary and I had attended, but I do believe it will become an annual event for us. Gary started the day off running a 5K then we completed a 1 mile fun run/walk- don't worry we walked. The rest of the morning was spent consuming calories (aka eating free food), petting the animals and walking around to many different health related booths. It was really a very nice and well put together event. Friday night we were able to get out "on a date" and try a new restaurant we had been meaning to go to. It is less than a half mile away from our house and has a very nice outdoor patio. Something to definitely keep in mind when we have just a short period of time to slip away for dinner. We also got some more baby clothes shopping in last night (despite Gary's wishes)!! My best friend from high school, Christin, and her boyfriend are stopping by later today which we are really looking forward to. When I talked to her on Monday I thought for sure they would get to meet our baby but it looks like that will not be the case! To keep ourselves occupied this afternoon we did my "maternity" photo shoot. Here is just a quick preview- my Week 39 belly shot. We will be blessed by a guest post from Gary with some more pictures in the next day or two so please check back!!!!

The main thing that is going on in our baby's world at this time is fat deposition (one of the only times in life we actually want this to occur!!!) The baby is working on building a layer of fat to help regulate their temperature once they decide to make their appearance! Our little one is approximately 20 inches in length and weighing just over 7 pounds. The realization hit me today that our baby could potentially be over 8 pounds and all the clothes I had packed for them at the hospital were newborn size (5-8 pounds). I had anticipated going early so I thought the clothes were perfect but now who knows!! Our baby's bag is just a bit fuller with the next largest size just incase (good thing baby clothes don't take up a lot of room.

I had posted earlier that I wanted to add an updated nursery photo and I finally got my photographer to take one. This week he had the assignment of taking certain pictures that we need for the baby book with one of them being the baby's first home and another being their room. And by the way, if anyone is in the market for an awesome baby book- I HIGHLY recommend the one we got. It is made by Carter's (but I purchased it on Amazon) and it is awesome. I absolutely love it!!!!

I really hope that within the next week I will be able to write "Welcome Baby Updegrove" as the title to a post, but that is all up to our little one. I do have another appointment tomorrow so we shall see what they have to say this week. For now, the bun is still cooking in the oven and appears to be very happy there so that is where he or she will stay. But they just can't stay in there forever!!!!

Quick update after my appointment from today (Monday). I am now closer to 5 cm dilated and the baby is in a perfect position but they are still IN there!!! We scheduled an induction for next Wednesday, June 2nd just in case. Again they don't think I will make it that far but who knows- my initial goal was to make it till 37 weeks and we are almost at 39.5!! So the longest Gary and I have to wait is another 9 days which really is not that far away and at least gives us an end point.

We have been blessed with the sweetest little girl who is excited to be a big sister any day now. Gary is still trucking through his second year of residency and I am fortunate enough to be staying home with our little ones.
