Week 9

Today was a very exciting day- it was my first OB appointment.  Everything went very well- fortunately we are having a very "normal and typical" pregnancy.  I was lucky enough to get a quick ultrasound in the office and have a picture of our little one now.  In the photo the baby kind of just looks like a blob therefore I marked the main body parts on the picture.  I could see more detail as they were doing the ultrasound and could see our little baby moving around.  You could see their little heart ticking away and their legs kicking.  It was great to finally be able to see our little one that is causing all these changes going on in my body.   Fortunately the nausea has eased up some though the fatigue is still present.

As far as size this week, the baby has reached an inch!! He/she is about the size of a grape.  Our little ones tail is now completely gone and their heart has now finished dividing into four chambers and the valves are starting to form.  The external sex organs, whether they be male or female, are present though not distinguishable at this point in time.  The baby's basic physiology is now set so they are ready for rapid weight gain.  Our babies facial features which we are dreaming about hugging and kissing in 7 months are becoming much more distinct.  I get so exciting thinking about what combination of Gary and I our little one will be!!

For those that have not heard yet Gary had a fantastic experience in Honduras.  His spanish greatly improved, he gained significant knowledge in pediatric orthopaedics, particularly conditions he would never see here in the States and he gained a lot of hands on experience.  I will put a few pictures up but if you are interested in seeing more just let us know- Gary is more than happy to share his experiences and pictures from Honduras.  We had a great week at home but it was too short.  He left again yesterday- this time just down to Philly to do another orthopaedics rotation at Jefferson.  We are hoping he gets to get home at least some weekends. We hope everyone is doing well!!  Can't wait to see everyone over Thanksgiving and to share our big news!!!!

We have been blessed with the sweetest little girl who is excited to be a big sister any day now. Gary is still trucking through his second year of residency and I am fortunate enough to be staying home with our little ones.
